What time is the presidential debate between Trump and Harris? All the information needed.

During the first debate of the campaign on Tuesday, Donald Trump and Kamala Harris will square off with barely two months until voters cast their ballots for presidency on election day.

In the swing states as well as nationwide, the former president of the United States and the vice president of the Democratic Party are still in a close contest. It will be their initial encounter and the second occasion that they have shared a room when they square off in the primetime match on News.

This is not the campaign's first debate. Just a few weeks before the president withdrew from the campaign, in June, Trump took Joe Biden on stage.

The discussion is where and when it is?

On Tuesday, September 10, at 21:00 EDT (02:00 BST), the debate gets underway. Live from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania's National Constitution Center, it airs on US network ABC. There won't be a crowd present for the 90-minute event, which will be broken up by two commercials. The BBC News channel will provide a live stream of it. You may watch on our live page on the BBC News app and website. As part of our live coverage, the BBC will have a group of reporters in Philadelphia and Washington who will offer analysis, fact checks, and responses.

What guidelines apply? World News ABC The panelists for this evening will be Linsey Davis and host David Muir. The microphones will be muted when any of those who are is not chatting, so they won't have to worry about two of them disrupting each other. Following their disruptive 2020 debate, those were the rules for the Trump-Biden debate early this year. Because the current format, according to Ms. Harris' campaign, "shields Donald Trump from speaking directly with the vice president," she hoped to have the microphones on continuously.

During the discussion, Trump will have the final say, and Ms. Harris decided to show up on the right side of the viewers' TV screens. There will be no advance sharing of ideas or questions with the candidates or their campaigns, and props or prepared notes will not be permitted on stage. During commercial breaks, neither candidate will be able to communicate with camp staff and will only be able to carry a pen, notepad, and water bottle. Both are not allowed to move from their podiums, as Trump did when he opposed Hillary Clinton in 2016.

What should I be on the lookout for?

Presidential debates are crucial campaign events that have the power to drastically alter the outcome, as demonstrated by the aftermath from Joe Biden's disastrous debate performance, which ultimately caused him to withdraw from the race. With videos going viral and soundbites being played repeatedly, candidates have a rare opportunity to positively impact voters. This will be especially crucial for Kamala Harris, who has so far in her campaign mostly stuck to pre-planned events.

According to recent Siena College polling for the New York Times, which was released on Sunday, many voters are still unsure about the candidate's identity and platform. Both nationwide and in the swing states that will determine the winner, her and Trump's campaign is still very close.

How are the applicants getting ready?

According to the New York Times, Ms. Harris is getting ready by consulting with Karen Dunn, a Washington lawyer who has been assisting Democratic lawmakers with debate preparation for almost 20 years.

Hillary Clinton, the Democratic contender for president in 2016, told the newspaper that Dunn, who frequently represents internet companies in court, practices "tough love". "She’s willing to say, ‘That’s not going to serve’... But she provides encouragement," Clinton remarked. According to reports, Philippe Reines, a longtime Clinton advisor who acted as Trump's stand-in during Ms. Harris's mock debates, is taking on the same job. According to his campaign, Trump has adopted a different strategy that has included some voter outreach. He was also trying to refine the "theatrics" of his debate performance, an aide told the Media.

Prominent advisors to the outgoing president prior to this discussion include Florida Republican congressman Matt Gaetz and Tulsi Gabbard, a former Democrat representative who engaged in conflict with Ms. Harris during the party's 2020 primary debates.

Will discussions like these continue?

JD Vance and Tim Walz, the competing running mates, will engage in a lone vice-presidential debate on CBS News on October 1. However, the conditions for any upcoming confrontations between Trump and Ms. Harris have not been agreed upon by the presidential camps.

Trump has demanded a minimum of two more. He is specifically advocating for a confrontation on more neutral ground, one that will be mediated by Fox News and feature a sizable live audience. After their first debate is over, the Harris campaign has stated that it will decide whether or not to have another one in October. The TV networks who interact immediately with the campaigns have supplanted the impartial Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), which has been in charge of these events since 1988. The Biden campaign has come under fire from the CPD for breaking convention, as the organization had planned to have three debates in September and October.
