A drone strike in Russia by Ukraine starts a fire.

The country's health ministry reports that a large-scale Ukrainian drone attack caused a fire in the Tver area of Russia, injuring thirteen people. Unconfirmed video appears to show a large explosion in the village of Toropets.

Social media users shared video footage of explosions and smoke filling up a wide swath of the sky. Following the strike in the wee hours of Wednesday, a partial evacuation of the area was mandated.

Later, the regional governor urged the town's citizens to come back, declaring that all of the town's infrastructure was operational once more. According to Ukrainian officials cited by the news agencies AFP and Reuters, an ammo depot had been hit.

According to reports, the military facility had weapons of mass destruction, artillery rounds, ballistic missiles, and fuel tanks in a number of warehouses. All of these weapons have been employed by Russia in its ongoing, all-out invasion of Ukraine.

With missiles provided by its allies in the West, Ukraine has been attempting to carry out attacks similar to the one it carried out most recently. But it has once again used its own drones to strike Russian targets without the US or UK's permission.

But this time, the goal is important. A military stockpile valued at about £30 million ($39 million) has appeared to burst into several pieces. A number of heat sources were identified by NASA using satellite photography.

There was even an account of an earthquake in the vicinity of Tver with a minor intensity. Andriy Kovalenko, the head of Ukraine's Center for Countering Disinformation, stated on Telegram that Russia has begun to stockpile North Korean missiles in Toropets in addition to its own weaponry, which includes Grad rockets.

The media has not independently verified any of these statements. Toropets is located roughly 470 km north of the Ukrainian border and 380 km (236 miles) northwest of Moscow, the nation's capital of Russia.

Kiev has become more self-assured and ambitious in recent months as it has increased the number of drone strikes within Russia. When a long-range radar in the city of Orsk was hit in the past, it traveled as far as 1,800 km (1,118 miles).

The busses for the evacuation were already been arranged, according to Toropets authorities, who made this announcement early on Wednesday morning. They added that everything were "under control" in the community of roughly 13,000 people. The number of people being evacuated was not disclosed by the authorities.

Meanwhile, regional schools and kindergartens would be closed on Wednesday, according to reports from Russia's official media. The extent of the damage in Toropets will provide much-needed morale support to Ukrainian soldiers. Additionally, it is intended to convey to the West a political message: hitting Russian-owned assets aids in Ukraine's self-defense and won't lead to a confrontation with Moscow.

In all, 54 drones were destroyed throughout the course of nocturnal strikes in five different Russian regions: Bryansk, Kursk, Oryol, Smolensk, and Belgorod, according to a report released by Russia's defense ministry on Wednesday. Administrator of the Belgorod Region Vyacheslav Gladkov reported that a "drone strike on a minibus" in the city of Shebekino resulted in the injuries of four citizens. Regarding the purported attacks, Ukraine has remained silent.

According to local military administration head Serhiy Popko, Ukrainian air defenses were involved as well against approaching Russian drones overnight close to the capital, Kyiv. Additionally, explosions were reported in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Sumy, which is close to the Russian border. Later, 16 drones were shot down by local government officials. However, after attacks on energy infrastructure on several occasions, the authorities were compelled to employ backup electrical systems.

The Ukrainian air force claimed to have shot downed 46 out of the 52 aircraft that Moscow sent flying over the nation during the course of the night. One person was killed in the Kirovohrad central region, according to local authorities, and a 90-year-old lady was injured in Kropyvnytskyi.

There has been not a separate verification of the statements made by Ukrainian and Russian officials. In February 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin initiated a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
