Egypt wrestler accused of sexual assault on women is detained in Paris.

Olympic wrestler Mohamed Kesho Ibrahim of Egypt was taken into custody in Paris on suspicion of sexual assault.

"On August 9 around 5am, a person born in March 1998 in Egypt who worked as a wrestler in the Olympic delegation was apprehended in front of the Oz cafe," read an announcement from the prosecutor's office in Paris.

It is understood that the reason for his detention was his alleged touching of another patron's buttocks at the cafe.

Kesho, a bronze medallist at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, was identified by the Egyptian Olympic Committee (EOC) as the team member who had been detained.

The EOC further stated that he may be barred from competition for life and that its ethics committee will look into his actions.

"If the charges are verified, the wrestler will face lifelong suspension and be permanently barred from competing in domestic as well as global competitions," added the statement.

On Wednesday, Hasrat Jafarov of Azerbaijan defeated Kesho in the opening stage of the men's 67kg Greco-Roman grappling competition.

According to the EOC, he was allowed to leave the Egyptian camp to see his weight category's final, but he neglected to come back and switched off his phone.
