By thinking about the users, Mark Zuckerberg intends to win the race against AI
Across all of its platforms, Meta reported having 3.27 billion active users per day.
As a result, the business is well-positioned to have those users regularly engage with its AI technology.
Meta is investing billions in research and development while incorporating AI into its platforms already.
Thanks to a technicality, Mark Zuckerberg is certain to win the race for AI adoption: Meta has almost three billion captive users who are forced to use it.
The millionaire has dedicated over two decades to transforming his Harvard dorm effort into a global social media conglomerate. Now that he appears poised to force people to use AI, Meta stands to gain a significant advantage in the fight to integrate AI into daily life.
Wednesday's second-quarter earnings release from the firm included Zuckerberg boasting about how Meta AI, the AI assistant the company launched earlier this year, was "on track to achieve our goal of becoming the most used AI companion by the end of the year."
In June, the company's daily regular user base increased by 7% year over year, and users of Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp continued to spend over 16 hours a month on these apps. Thus, Zuckerberg has a large number of interested people to whom he may introduce AI-powered technology. However, Meta is employing a technique that denies people the ability to refuse using its AI, rather than offering them a choice.
This places it in a unique position to provide new AI features, much like how it introduced and saw user adoption of the Facebook Wall in 2004. Users of rival products like Anthropic or OpenAI, on the other hand, must research and actively seek out the product.
This strategy is likely being adopted by Zuckerberg for a number of reasons.
First off, considering that Meta is investing billions of dollars on AI, it would be a waste of money to leave adoption up to users who may not be sure if they need the technology in their lives.
Additionally, it appears that Zuckerberg wants to demonstrate to consumers how AI may naturally improve their use of his programs.
During the call, the CEO stated that technology is enhancing the caliber of recommendations and increasing interaction on Facebook and Instagram. He added that soon, more precisely targeted advertising services will also be offered by AI.
The boss of Meta has previously chastised others for using this cornering tactic. He recently criticized Apple for forcing customers into its exclusive environment.Users of Meta won't have that luxury, therefore whether they like it or not, AI will inevitably become a part of their daily lives.
