Hakeem Jeffries, the head of the House Democratic Caucus, stated on Friday that he had a meeting with President Biden to discuss the caucus' views on "the path forward," which seemed to allude to Biden's position as the party's presidential contender. The congressman from New York and Biden met on Thursday night, following the president's unusual press conference where he declared he would continue to run against Republican front-runner Donald Trump.



Earlier on Thursday, Jeffries announced that he planned to survey everybody of the House caucus to find out how they felt about maintaining Biden as the party's nominee. Biden was speaking with colleagues of the Legislative Hispanic Group on the phone on Friday as well, and later during the day, he is anticipated to speak with more politicians on Capitol Hill, 




Representative Raul Grijalva, a Democrat from Arizona and an employee of the Hispanic Caucus, was one of the first politicians to publicly urge Biden to withdraw from the 2024 race. Jeffries stated in a statement to his caucus on Friday that he "expressed the entire length of awareness, emotional insights and judgements about how to move onward that the Assembly has contributed in our last few months together" during his conversation with Biden.




As of the early hours of Friday, Biden should withdraw from the contest so that another member of his party can become the nominee, as demanded by 18 congressional Democrats and one Republican senator.
