Overnight, a Cleveland police officer was shot and died; the suspect is being held.

Early in the morning, a Cleveland police officer shot by gun and died. The East Side of Cleveland was the scene of the shooting.

Early in the morning, Jamieson Ritter, a Cleveland police officer, was shot and murdered on the East Side. Police have identified the suspect 24-year-old who's name is Delawnte Hardy, and they have charged him with aggravated murder. During a news conference with Mayor Justin Bibb and Police Chief Annie Todd at 6:45 a.m., we found out that a Third District officer, 27, was shot and died while responding to a call for a suspect who was missing for felonious Assault

We knew ahead of time that this was possibly a dangerous offender who was sought, which is why there were multiple cops on the site. Thus, several officers were present at the scene of the incident," Todd stated. Todd attests that Hardy made an attempt to flee the police on a bicycle prior to allegedly opening fire on them.

"This is a depressing day for all of us and our city ," Todd remarked. Ironically, we are looking of the evil that attempts to infiltrate our community on this day honouring freedom. We acknowledge the tremendous sacrifice that Officer Ritter made, though, and we will always remember and show compassion for him, even in spite of our loss and pain. His legacy will live on in our hearts forever." In response to the officer's passing, Bibb issued the following statement:

"The tragic death one of our Cleveland Division of Police officers tonight breaks my heart. The untimely demise of this devoted public servant is being mourned by our entire city. We shall guarantee that the culprit is promptly brought to justice to the fullest extent of the law and that we completely support the inquiry. My sincere condolences are sent to our slain officer's friends, family, and coworkers. As we grieve this tragic tragedy, kindly offer prayers to his friends, relatives and the our Cleveland Division of Police."

Around 1:30 a.m., police were summoned to Wade park off East 80's in response to reports of gunfire, according to a News 5 team who was on the site all night. The suspect, according to police, tried to escape on a bike after leaving the premises. There were a number of officers present. He fired at the police several times when they attempted to arrest him, according to the officials. Authorities said Hardy was taken into custody and is not hurt.

Approximately twenty evidence markers were strewn across the road by our reporters, and neighbours report hearing roughly ten gunshots.

All night long, there was an intense police presence at UH Main Campus in Cleveland as well as at the scene, which involved closing up several city blocks. 5 news reporter arrived at the hospital and witnessed a police parade out of the building, followed by a van carrying a casket covered in the American flag and officers saluting.

Officer Ritter: who was he?

Speaking with Cleveland-area artist Moriss Grayson for News 5, Maya Lockett revealed that the two became friends after Grayson met Officer Ritter while working on a mural for a company.

"I couldn't believe it was real, and I was devastated." I closed and reopened my eyes, pinching myself to be sure it was a nightmare . However, it wasn't, and as I sat there and read through the comments, I saw that people had written some really offensive and strange things. I responded to them by criticising them and by embracing him since he wasn't your average police officer. I knew this guy to be a great guy and a great friend," Grayson remarked.

While Ritter was completing a wall painting on a shop, Grayson got to know him. Before Morris clarified that he was working on a communal mural, Ritter believed he was painting illegally. They talked about how they wanted to teach children in underprivileged neighbourhoods how to discribe them artistically.

According to him, Ritter was committed to ensuring the safety of Cleveland neighbourhoods and wished to do extra in the neighbourhood to strengthen ties between the police and the public. Member of the Syracuse Army ROTC Eric Schaertl described Ritter as focused, modest, and selfless. "It was evident that he genuinely had a desire to assist others," Schaertl told Kaylee Olivas of News 5.

The Best Cleveland Peace Officers Memorial Society and the Cleveland Police Foundation are providing their assistance to the surviving officer's family and coworkers while memorials for Officer Ritter continue. "He worked as though he were on a mission. According to Bob Guttu of The Cleveland Police Foundation, the goal was to be an excellent police officer. He talked with Damon Maloney of News 5.
